Industry analysts are of the opinion that the key players in the optical components industry will gain due to the steadily growing access of the Internet by the general population and companies. Certain analysts have forecasted that the market value of fiber optics will grow twofold due to the numerous secular shifts and increased use of Internet. The networks will need to be frequently upgraded by the users/customers since the Internet technology is rapidly changing, coupled with the competitive nature of the mobile device and smartphone markets. Ovum, a research firm, has observed that in 2010, the optical components market earned $5.6 billion in revenue.
In the 4th quarter of the fiscal year 2011, Oclaro reported revenue earnings of $109.2 million, while in the third quarter it was reported at $115.7 million.
