Cypress's Optical Navigation Solutions for Precision Motion-Sensing Applications

Cypress Semiconductor has declared that Samsung Electronics has chosen OvationONS II optical navigation equipment to be incorporated into intercept phones using the Android operating system.

The optical track pad modules present within the Intercept phones will feature an OvationONS II sensor for simple and spontaneous navigation across menus and screens.

Cypress Semiconductor announced that Samsung Electronics has selected the OvationONS™ II optical navigation system for its Android-based Intercept phones. The OvationONS II sensor will be used in the optical track pad modules inside the Intercept for easy and intuitive single-handed screen and menu navigation.

The company offers PSoC-based OvationONS II utilizing a sensor, laser, and processor to enable an optical finger navigation system. The OvationONS II utilizes patented OptiCheck technology to evaluate finger movements and to deliver consistent and precise user navigation for mobile phones.

The Intercept provides a full slider QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen, delivering an easy and practical approach to achieve rapid web surfing, messaging, downloading and more. Its features include expandable memory, Google Maps, Bluetooth and picture messaging.

OvationONS is a two-dimensional motion sensor system that ensures consistent optical tracking performance under all operating conditions. The OvationONS sensor utilizes the PSoC programmable technology from Cypress. The programmable benefits allow the sensor to tune tracking performance during different conditions including tracking surfaces, ambient light conditions and operating temperatures.
