Multi-Contact Introduces Fiber Optic Modules for Data Transfer System

Multi-Contact has introduced a fiber optic model for its Combitac connector solution that are utilized in data transfer systems over a wide range of applications such as rail transportation, industrial automation, and medical equipment data systems.

The new connectors comprising four poles have the ability to accept either single or multimode fiber measuring 3 mm in diameter with the graded types of index fiber measuring 62.5/125µm or 50/125µm. Pre-assembled pins and sockets can be provided with fiber, measuring 1m length, which is made to terminate with SC or ST standard connectors. Depending on the type of the assembly, losses due to insertion are lower than 0.5dB at 1,310 nm. For every single contact with spring deflection of 3mm, the contact pressure is 10N. These contacts are ranked for mating cycles above five hundred, with an interval for cleansing after every 100 cycles. The range of rated temperature exists between -30°C to +90°C.

Apart from allowing optical fiber contacts, the Combitac connector system can be installed with any amalgamation of pneumatic, coaxial, databus, fluid connectors, high-voltage, thermocouple, high-current, and power. The contact carriers are either fitted into DIN coupler hoods or grouped in a strong and compact frame for panel mounting.
