Osram Opto Semiconductors, a provider of semiconductor technology solutions for lighting applications, has added three new LED color variants to the TopLED Black Series portfolio that have a beam angle of 60°.
The black package LEDs are now available in orange, green, and blue colors, in addition to the existing yellow and red colors. The company offers all the five colors in a 30° beam angle. The company’s Product Manager, Sven Weber stated that the addition of three colors would enable the LEDs to cover a vast array of applications.
The LEDs are specifically suited for multicolor and monochromatic displays, such as those found in cost information pillars at gas stations, parking control systems, travel information displays, and electronic road signs. An ideal beam angle for these applications depends on local conditions and the distance of the LEDs from the viewer. LEDs, featuring a 30° beam angle are suitable for straight roads whereas LEDs with a 60° beam angle are suitable for highway exits and curves on entrances. The orange LED variants are designed for use in pedestrian lightings in Japan and America.
The TopLED Black Series’ black package decreases reflections and provides high contrast. The beam angle version offers a luminance of 7 cd at a current of 20 mA. The LEDs, as SMT components, suit automatic handling and enable displays to be developed at low cost.
