IXYS Launches PCM-7510 Module to Drive Laser Diodes

A manufacturer of semiconductor solutions for motion control and energy conversion applications, IXYS has launched the PCM-7510 laser diode driver to drive arrays, bars, and diode lasers in semi-permanent and permanent installations.

The air-cooled unit has been manufactured by the company’s IXYSRF division, which is located in the State of Colorado. The company utilized DEI pulse systems and sophisticated technology to develop a pulse generator operated by an interactive touch screen.

The PCM-7510, operated by a finger touch, generates current pulses that can be adjusted between 50 to 250A to operate laser diodes as well as other current-based applications. The PCM-7510 offers users with varying pulse widths ranging from 5 µs to 5 ms and rise and fall times ranging from 2 to 8 µs. The laser diode driver provides varying pulse repetition frequencies ranging from 40 to 5000 Hz by utilizing an internal trigger or one shot to 5000 Hz with the help of an external trigger, which supports output power of up to 1250W.

The PCM-7510 is used to operate industrial lasers and can be used in experimental and scientific applications. There is no need of a liquid cooling system since it has an air cooling system and hence is suitable for a broad range of operating environments. The innovative touch screen interface and display controls each individual pulse function, whereas the backlit display enables confirming of operating parameters visually such as repetition frequency, error and fault messages, pulse width, duty cycle, amplitude, and output power set-point. The front panel displays enable the user to easily fix all customer-defined features that include diode forward current, pulse width, and frequency.

An analog current monitor controls the current that passes to the laser diode and a synchronization output helps to synchronize PCM-7510 with other devices. It can also be operated through an external source and is incorporated with a standard RS232 interface.
