Pennsylvania-based triple play and internet services provider, QCOL have chosen to deploy the services of FTTx (Fiber to the x) network access solutions provider, Zhone Technologies.
Zhone’s MXK solution will be deployed by QCOL’s as its key GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) platform meant to deliver triple play services using fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network.
Beginning August 2011, the MXK solution will enable QCOL to provide reliable and affordable video and VoIP services and high speed Internet access to the 2,000+ QCOL subscribers located in Pennsylvania’s Fayette County, Maryland’s Garrett County and West Virginia’s Preston County. The MXK platform will provide internet capacity of up to 1 gigabit (GB) that will meet the high bandwidth demands needed by high definition (HD) digital video recorder content, video streaming and more than one HDTV screen within homes.
Zhone was chosen by the owners of QCOL, Dough Friend and Brian Frazee due to system flexibility designed to support more than one data service, the density provided by the 8-port GPON cards and the anticipated cost savings by which both QCOL and its business and residential customers would benefit from.
Using Zhone’s MXK solution, QCOL will deliver RF (radio frequency) radio using active point-to-point ethernet or Passive Optical Network. The zNID Optical Network Terminals designed by Zhone will also be deployed by QCOL for end-points.
The chief marketing officer of Zhone, Brian Caskey stated that features such as scalability, flexibility and integrated management system of the Zhone MXK solution makes it an ideal solution to meet the rising bandwidth requirements of customers.
