Manufacturer of fiber-optic sensing systems, US Sensing Systems (USSI) has received an order to manufacture a seismic solution to a key oilfield services firm. The company, a subsidiary of Acorn Energy, will utilize its optical fiber sensor technology to develop the seismic system.
USSI’s Chief Executive Officer, Jim Andersen stated that the company offers a cost-efficient optical fiber solution and delivers a substantially better performance. He added that the order received from an oilfield services firm will enable the company to couple its fiber-optic experience with the field experience of service companies.
The Chief Executive Officer of Acorn Energy, John Moore mentioned that USSI has developed the sensor technology to address the four-dimensional seismic revolution. Moore added that the company’s sensors offer critical real time information for geologists to enhance the yields from reservoir activation. He also added that the sensors can be embedded permanently in reservoirs.
The WorldWatch Institute stated that 75% of the oil reserve additions came from extensions and revisions of known accumulations. Companies utilizing the reservoir activation require more seismic data to expand reserves ahead of increasing demand. To address the growing need for production needs, USSI has expanded its staff and has moved into a 21,000 ft2 manufacturing plant in California.
