SaskTel, a Saskatchewan-based provider of full-service communications, has chosen Alcatel-Lucent as the main provider of infrastructure services to enable implementation of the Fiber announced by SaskTel to the Premises Program.
Through this program, the broadband capability of SaskTel is expanded in view of the high demand for advanced services.
SaskTel has also declared that it will invest about $670 million for a seven year period from 2011 to 2017 in a next generation broadband access program. This program involves deployment of a GPON-based Fiber to the Premises (FTTP) system to improve the broadband network in the province.
An individual, fully merged end-to-end IP network will be deployed by SaskTel for its wireline and wireless residential and business services based on the high leverage network (HLN) provided by Alcatel-Lucent. The network will be developed using a variety of future IP, wireline and optical products of Alcatel. After completion, the network will enable SaskTel to enhance its presence and improve operational efficiency performance and dependability.
According to the President and CEO of SaskTel, Ron Styles, Alcatel-Lucent's HLN was selected as it allows delivering of a complete range of services that is possible by the modern innovations in wireline IP, broadband access and optical technologies.
SaskTel has also chosen the Alcatel-Lucent 5780 dynamic services controller (DSC) in addition to other products as a major technology to enable services for its network. The DSC provides improved policy control and subscriber management enabling control and visibility of the complete network in the service provider’s hands. By this, novel services are developed quickly and ensure efficient operation of the network.
