Micrel Releases WLED Drivers for LED Lighting Products

Micrel, a manufacturer of IC solutions, has released a pair of linear WLED drivers for general purpose LED lighting, landscape, and architectural products. The MIC4802 and MIC4801 WLED drivers drive one LED up to 800 and 600mA, respectively.

The WLED drivers offer high efficiency because the architecture does not have switching losses in inductive boost circuits or conventional charge pumps. They have low dropout voltages that enable the LEDs to be directly driven from low voltage sources. This eradicates the switching losses and noise that come along with the usage of boost circuitry.

The WLED drivers assure constant display lighting under all kinds of conditions. The brightness of the drivers is controlled via an ultra fast PWM interface that operates down to a duty cycle of less than 1%. The MIC4802 and MIC4801 come in an 8-pin ePad SOIC package and 8-Pin SOIC package, respectively. Analog’s Senior Marketing Director, Doyle Stack stated that the WLED drivers do not need an inductor and minimize component count and eradicate noise and simplify multiple designs.
