White LED Driver Utilizes 32 kHz Pulse Width Modulation Frequency

Advanced Analogic Technologies has rolled out a white LED driver, AAT1451 that is suitable for LCD backlighting applications in mobile electronic units.

White LED Driver

The AAT1451 LED driver has the ability to drive a maximum of four LED strings at an efficiency of 93%. The efficiency can be extended by automatic phase shifting that enhances the battery life.

The LED driver utilizes a 32 kHz pulse width modulation frequency that assures silent operation. It has a switching frequency ranging between 600 kHz and 1 MHz that enables OEMs to choose small inactive components. The driver provides an array of DC input voltages that enable devices to be powered from multi-cell Li-ion batteries and cigarette lighter adapters. It also includes safety features to alert the system controller.

The LED driver incorporates a content adaptive brightness control that enhances the battery life and 256 LED brightness levels that support the Android OS platform. It includes four precision current sinks, which can be programmed up to 30mA per string. The current sinks also assure uniform brightness and precise backlight color temperature across the display. The LED driver is available in a TDFN34-16 package and operates from -40 to +85°C.
