The Museum of London has invested £20 million to convert its Sackler Hall into a meeting point and an information center to help youngsters gather knowledge about urban history.
An elliptical LED wall, measuring 48 m in circumference and 1.6 m in height has been installed in the Sackler hall. The LED wall, deployed by curveLED, can be utilized to exhibit information and messages. It is based on linear LED devices, which are mounted in tubes of Makrolon to shield them from external influences.
curveLED also partnered with Bayer MaterialScience in 2009 to display a LED wall on the front part of Bayer’s administrative building in Belgium. The LED wall was utilized to showcase a changing sequence of information on the building. Bayer was also involved in manufacturing Makrolon for developing lenses. The lenses contributed to sustainable lighting solutions by bundling and directing the light from LEDs.
curveLED’s Head of Sales and Marketing, Stefan Arens stated that the Sackler Hall order was given by Furneaux Steward Design, who were responsible for designing the hall. The company's head of Research and Development, Thomas Tennagels added that Makrolon has a high mechanical stability that helps in preventing damage to the LED wall during installation.
