Samsung Uses Laser Direct Structuring Process to Develop Antennas

A provider of electronic devices, Pulse Electronics announced that Samsung Electronics has chosen its laser direct structuring (LDS) procedure to manufacture three-dimensional antennas. The LDS process generates an antenna model in three-dimensions on a plastic part and enables Samsung’s product designers to put the antenna at any required place.

Samsung has used the LDS process to deliver slim and stylish mobile devices. Pulse Electronics has offered its process knowledge to Samsung, thereby enabling engineers to attain high production yields. The end user can obtain a very slim mobile phone by using the three-dimensional LDS technology.

Pulse Electronics’ Senior VP, John Houston mentioned that the LDS procedure is ideal for the mobile phone market sector because three-dimensional shapes are required to attain thin and small mobile units. The process enables designers to fine tune the product during production, in order to address the rigorous carrier needs. He added that the three-dimensional antennas offer freedom for design, generate better RF performance and save space.
