Micrel Releases White LED Drivers in MSOP Package

Micrel has released a pair of linear White LED drivers that are aimed at expanding the company’s portfolio of lighting devices.

MIC4812 Functional Diagram

The MIC4812 and MIC4811 six channel LED drivers that are also current-sink are suitable for general-purpose LED displays, in addition to marquee displays and billboards. The drivers are designed to drive a maximum of six WLEDs for signage lighting purposes. They offer high efficiency at low source voltages because the drivers do not have switching losses that are present in conventional inductive boost circuits or charge pumps. The drivers sustain constant current for a maximum of six WLEDs.

The MIC4811 LED driver has a dropout of 100mV at a frequency of 50mA whereas the MIC4812 features a dropout of 190mW at 100mA. Both the LED drivers have dynamic average matching architecture, which provide optimal matching across the six WLEDs. The current regulated WLED channels assure consistent display lighting under all conditions. The drivers’ brightness is controlled using an ultra fast PWM interface that is operational down to less than 1% duty cycle. The MIC4811 driver is available in a 10-pin MSOP package whereas the MIC4812 driver comes in a 10-pin MSOP exposed pad package. Both the drivers operate at a junction temperature of -40 to +125ºC.
