Oclaro Laser Diode Bars Selected for Pantec’s Tissue Ablation and Transdermal Drug Delivery Systems

Pantec Biosolutions, a provider of medical applications in dermatology, has selected Oclaro’s 9xx nm laser diode bars for applications in its new P.L.E.A.S.E. (Precise Laser Epidermal System) platform.

The laser platform has been designed to enable devices to deliver drugs in an easy manner without using needles or causing any pain, while enabling safe tissue ablation for rejuvenation of the skin. The device can be used by medical professionals and consumers for a range of applications including vaccinations, wrinkle removal and in vitro fertilization.

The world-wide aesthetic market including tissue ablation is expected to increase to $7.5 billion in 2015 from $4.4 billion in 2010. Pantec also anticipates that by 2015, the transdermal drug delivery market would become a multi-billion market.

Oclaro, a laser solutions and optical communications provider, has collaborated with Pantec for the quasi continuous wave laser diode solution. Pantec has incorporated Oclaro’s conductively cooled laser diode bars in its P.L.E.A.S.E. Professional tabletop system for tissue ablation and transdermal delivery. The laser bars provide peak power output level of 320W at 5ms pulse duration, 10% duty cycle and 300A drive current. For protecting the front facet of the laser diode bar from Catastrophic Optical Damage, the diodes include Oclaro’s E2 mirror passivation process.
