Alphion has announced that the company’s Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology has been selected by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), the Indian government-owned company offering telecommunications services.
MTNL will use the GPON technology for the installation of triple-play Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) services in the first phase of its future-generation network. Alphion provides the entire range of solutions for endorsing full end-to-end broadband access networks, allowing multiple-play broadband services based upon IP, including Video-On-Demand, IPTV, high-speed Internet and VoIP.
Alphion’s GPON product portfolio comprises passive optical splitters, advanced Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and Optical Network Terminals. The OLT’s each shelf features 40 GPON ports. It endorses a specific, economical fiber path protection network, an exclusively ideal network for the Indian market.
The GPON technology allows the coupling of wire-line and wireless networks, as it is ideal for 4G/3G/2G cellular networks, WiMax and next-generation wireless networks in addition to offering distribution of high speed Internet, multiple-play voice, video and data services.
The Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer at Alphion, Dr. Bharat P. Dave, commented that the FTTP installation for the MTNL is another evidence for the company’s dedication towards durability, quality and customer satisfaction. The company maintains its leadership in the deployment of FTTH networks in India, he added.
