DSM Functional Materials, a business division of Royal DSM’s Performance Materials business, has extended its three decades of supply relationship with Corning, developer and supplier of specialty ceramics and glass, by signing a new multi-year agreement to supply CPC-coated optical fibers to telecommunications providers.
Low-grade optical fiber coatings can affect the performance of telecommunication networks. DSM’s mechanically stripped coatings can eliminate such problems in network installations. The coating formulations are enhanced for various multi- and single-fiber cable forms, including tight buffer, slotted-core, ribbon and loose tube cables.
The Director of Marketing and Division Vice President at Corning Optical Fiber, Barry Linchuck stated that DSM’s sophisticated DeSolite coatings are vital parts for the manufacture of Corning’s CPC-coated optical fibers. DSM’s coating compositions in combination with Corning's sophisticated processing technique produce optical fibers that have improved qualities such as micro-bending resistance and low attenuation, Linchuck added.
According to Rob Crowell, who works as Senior Business Director of Functional Materials at DSM, telecommunication operators are confident that they are obtaining durable optical fiber products through the strategic partnership between DSM and Corning.
