RSL Fiber Systems has inked an international defense agreement with Fincantieri, a shipbuilder based in Italy, to deliver fiber optic remote source lighting solutions for the new Fregata Europea Multi-Missione (FREMM) class frigates being constructed by the Italian Navy.
This is RSL’s first non-US Navy contract. As per the deal, the company will supply its lighting systems for the first 6 of an expected 10 FREMM general purpose and anti-submarine warfare frigates for an undisclosed price. The latest contract strengthens RSL's status as a major supplier of advanced shipboard lighting systems for the defense industry.
RSL Fiber Systems, a unit of Skyler Technologies Group, offers integrated and sophisticated lighting systems for both commercial and military uses. The company’s fiber optic technology lights up the US Navy warships, including the experimental craft ‘Sea Fighter’, the LPD 17 class and the DDG 1000, the latest sophisticated destroyer being developed by the Navy.
RSL lighting systems are utilized in numerous commercial uses, including renewable energy, homeland security, offshore oil exploration, refineries and mining. The remote source lighting, which is RSL’s core technology, uses its patented, ultra-efficient optical fiber to offer low-maintenance illumination safely and efficiently over long distances to adverse locations.
