MB Development, headquartered in Miami Beach, Florida, has purchased a Halco 80625 LED light from Dallas Light Bulb for installation at its Grand Beach Hotel.
The installation will help MB Development to achieve Turtle Light Certification. The amber-colored light is used as an alternative for standard white light to help overcome turtle nesting problems on beachfront locations.
Sea turtles are protected by the US Endangered Species Act of 1973 and Florida Statute, Chapter 370. Miami Beach in Florida is a perfect habitat for turtles that desire dark beaches for nesting and hatchling purposes. But most of the coastline in Florida is brightly illuminated, which presents a threat to the hatchlings. Majority of them die even before reaching the water.
To avoid this, soft exterior lighting can be installed on beachfront properties. Miami Beach has implemented a Turtle Nesting Protection regulation to protect the sea turtles and to reduce the artificial lighting impact.
MB Development’s Kelly Kirtland said that after trying several products, the company chose the Halco LED amber light, which is seen as the best solution to save turtles.
