Samsung Electronics, specialist in telecommunication, semiconductor and digital media technologies, has started the mass production of transparent LCD panels. The 22” LCD panels will be available in both color and black-and-white versions.
The contrast ratio of the transparent LCD panels is 500:1 with WSXGA+ standard resolution of 1680x1050 pixels. The transparency rate is high in the LCD displays when compared to conventional LCD panels. The transparency rate of the black-and-white and color panels are more than 20% and 15%, respectively.
By integrating the Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface and High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), the transparent displays enhance the convenience for both manufacturers and consumers. Another benefit of the transparent panels is low electricity consumption, which is 90% less compared to conventional panels. The reason is the transparent displays use sunlight to generate power, thereby reducing dependence on electricity.
Transparent LCD panel from Samsung Electronics is an excellent advertising tool for applications in outdoor billboards, show windows or showcase events. It can also be used as a communication device in schools and corporations.
The SVP of LCD Business at Samsung Electronics, Younghwan Park stated that with initial mass-scale production, the company is planning to lead the international transparent LCD market.
