Rochester Telephone Selects Zhone’s MXK Gigabit Passive Optical Network Solution

Zhone Technologies announced that its MXK intelligent Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) system has been chosen by Rochester Telephone (RTC), a firm specializing in data, video and voice services, to deliver triple play services.

MXK GPON Solution

The MXK GPON system covers the complete spectrum of baseline carrier-class needs for multi-service software and hardware and offers basic improvements in access networking. Following the successful completion of a two-month trail in February 2011, RTC will deploy the GPON system to offer durable and economical ultra-speed internet, video and VoIP services to its subscribers. According to RTC, the MXK solution is ideal for its customers as it endorses both Internet Protocol and Radio Frequency video over fiber.

Zhone launched 18 new Active Ethernet deployments and zNID optical network terminals (ONTs) in June 2010. With latest improvements in the zNID-42xx product portfolio, users can attain 10 times higher performance than earlier models. The new improvements will also reduce the expenditures related to ONT deployment to service providers endorsing a wide range of installation setups.

Zhone’s GPON system can support high bandwidth required for video streaming within the home, multiple high-definition television screens and high definition digital video recorder content.
