The Avocet is a wide-VGA sensor with a pixel resolution of 1024x512. It has an expanded high dynamic range of up to 154 dB in each single frame at an optimal frame speed of 60 fps. The high dynamic range provides high-quality images in both nighttime and daytime and in turn improves the safety features of driver assistance solutions.

The Product Line Manager at Melexis, Cliff De Locht stated that the Avocet image sensor offers a high-quality image with optimal image details in both dark and high-bright regions of the frame concurrently. The Avocet is ideal for applications that demand high dynamic range such as night/day surveillance cameras where visibility of people’s faces is important to ensure safety.
