LED Lighting to Turn Virgin Islands Greener

Cooper Industries’ subsidiary, Cooper Lighting has been chosen by local authorities in the Virgin Islands to install 972 LED street lights in the region.

The work order was routed through the Water and Power Authority in an endeavor to conserve energy and become eco-friendly. The company is a global producer of electrical and lighting products.

The local island authorities have opted for the company’s Streetworks OVH LED Luminaire models for the region. This was in keeping with the decision to use LED for lighting applications. The 103 W lights are estimated to slash energy consumption by about 56% against the earlier lighting system.

According to Director Of Transmission and Distribution, Virgin Islands WAPA, Clinton Hedrington, Jr., the authorities decided to opt for LED lighting fixtures as this would not only help them conserve energy but also the overall costs. The company’s product design and lighting output also suited their requirement, Hedrington said.
