Comprehensive Report on Datacom Optical Components

Research and Markets has included a new market research report on optical components titled ‘Forecast Update: Datacom Optical Components’.

According to the report, the changeover from 1 to 10 GbE facilitates protocol and architecture modifications and improves the speed of communications. Converged networking will affect Fibre Channel. Proprietary interconnect and infiniBand are using the technology bandwagon for 100 and 40 G Ethernet. However, they are also taking optical technologies in new directions.

According to the report, Datacom optics would surpass $1.7 billion by 2015 with a CAGR of 13% from 2009 to 2015. Merchant discrete components that are part of the modules would add extra revenue of more than $140 million and will grow at the same CAGR.

The market showed a robust revival in 2009 end followed by a flattening sale in 2010. The sedate picture hides variations between small and medium business datacom, enterprise LAN, ultra-performance computing and data centers. The alterations in ultra-performance computing and datacenters steer the forecast growth for optics.

The report predicts that the period between late 2011 and early 2013 would be a significant period as the implementation of 10 GbE on LAN-on-motherboard in servers would have an impact on the market.
