Broadband Infraco Invests R243 Million on Fibre Optic Network

Broadband Infraco, telecoms infrastructure provider, has invested R243 million on its fibre optic network during the period of 2009-2010. Sbu Ndebele, Transport Minister, made the announcement at a media briefing at the South African Parliament.

Broadband Infraco’s fibre optic cable network spans around 12,250 km across South Africa. The network allowed the country to expand connectivity to countries such as Swaziland, Zimbabwe Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia and Lesotho and to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

According to Ndebele, the 2010 legacy implementation plan is now ready for deployment in February and March 2011. The plan consisted of the 2010 Fifa World Cup equipment, which would be reinstalled to two host cities, namely Tshwane and Cape Town. In addition, the implementation of the fibre project will commence from April to May.
