Manufacturer of semiconductor solutions, STMicroelectronics and bTendo announced that they have inked an agreement to develop a small pico projector for smart phones and consumer-electronics units.
The pico projector is based on ST's semiconductor process technology and MEMS competence and bTendo's Scanning Laser Projection engine technology. The projector will be displayed at the Mobile World Congress Expo that will be held in Barcelona.
The device, measuring less than 6 mm in height, offers a crisper and sharper image when compared to existing pico projector solutions. It implements two mirror-actuation devices within the optical engine, making it ideal for smart phones. The pico projector offers an inbuilt support for Mobile Industry Processor Interface and consumes less power to assure easy and swift integration.
bTendo’s Chief Executive Officer, Dana Gross stated that the company is delighted to work with STMicroelectronics and deliver sophisticated technology for Pico Projectors. Gross added that ST's design capabilities and semiconductor process technology would allow a cost-efficient solution for personal consumer units.
