Pepco Energy Receives Energy Performance Contract from MTA

Pepco Energy Services, a company specializing in energy savings performance contracting, has received a $6.2 million contract for lighting retrofit and energy saving projects from the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA). The contract was for an energy savings performance for 15 years.

Pepco Energy is handling the installation of energy saving measures to minimize the energy consumption of the MTA. Among the planned measures, the company is handling daylight-harvesting, installation of occupancy sensors and lighting retrofits. In addition, the company will install a solar photovoltaic array on rooftops for MTA’s Northwest Bus Division.

To support the project, the MTA obtained funding from the Maryland Energy Administration Project Sunburst Grant Program and the local utility rebate program. The construction of the project started in January 2011 and is scheduled to conclude in August 2011. The energy conversation measures will benefit the building space at Light Rail, Metro Subway, Metro Subway, MARC facilities and the MTA property.
