Lighting retrofit and installation company, Value Energy Solutions has begun a large-scale lighting retrofit project for the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, in New York.
With the availability of a minimal state funding and the necessity of decreased operating costs, the Newburgh School District had to offer good education for students with reduced impact to the taxpayers.
The school devised a formal energy management policy due to the increasing energy and costs. The Newburgh Enlarged City School District’s business office contacted Value Energy Solutions’ Northeast Regional Manager, Jim Smith for the replacement and upgrade of lighting in the school. The team from Value Energy Solutions examined the current lighting system and the energy saving objectives of the school.
After a thorough analysis, Value Energy Solutions suggested the school to retrofit the currently used 40 W T-12 lamps with energy saving 18 W T-5 adapters. The new adapters burn a 28 W T5 lamp by consuming a power of 18 W. In addition, the adapters enable the school to utilize more energy saving bulbs, while retaining the existing fluorescent lighting fixtures.
As part of the lighting project, the Newburgh School District will buy more than 10,000 units of 18 W adapters. These adapters will offer annual energy savings in excess of $200,000 and a maximum expected energy savings of 60%. Furthermore, the adapters minimize the carbon footprint of the school and the maintenance costs in the future.
