BT Launches Fibre Optic Broadband Service in Swindon

BT has announced the availability of fibre optic broadband service to businesses and residents in Swindon. The fibre technology is now available to about 40,000 properties in Swindon after the launch of high-speed broadband in the neighboring communities of Toothill and Blunsdon.

BT’s fibre-to-the-cabinet service offers maximum download speeds of 40 Mbps with an upload capability of 10 Mbps. In the future, the download and upload speeds will increase to 60 and 15 Mbps, respectively.

The fibre deployment plans of BT include the towns of Wimborne, Westbury, Devizes, Dartmouth and Blandford. The regions will have access to the fibre-to-the-cabinet service by spring 2012.

BT’s Regional Director for the South-west, Jon Reynolds stated that the company is pleased with the launch of fibre optic service in the region. He added that the broadband rollout in Swindon will generate jobs and boost the local economy.
