Sensus Unveils FlexNet AMI System for Outdoor Lighting Control

Sensus has announced the addition of new outdoor lighting control solutions to the smart grid product line.

The use of FlexNet Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system for control and communication of outdoor lighting such as streetlights, allows municipalities and electric utilities to achieve energy and cost savings.

Sensus Lighting Control integrates induction lighting and FlexNet radio communication modules that can be controlled with a FlexNet Metro base station. Currently, electric utilities having a FlexNet AMI system use a part of the licensed radio spectrum for controlling the outdoor lighting. This adds new capability to minimize the total ownership cost and maximize the return on investment achieved from the solution.

The lighting control line consists of a replacement light assembly that utilizes an energy-saving induction lamp with a built-in FlexNet radio and ballast to offer two-way communication with all the lamps present in the service territory. Sensus provides a replacement for inefficient High Pressure Sodium Vapor (HPS) lamps. The lights connected with a FlexNet radio can be configured to switch on and off at specific duration.
