Optical Transport System Delivering Broadband From the Base to the Battlefield

The Tellabs(R) 7100 Optical Transport System (OTS) received certification from the United States Information Systems Engineering Command's (ISEC) Technology Integration Center (TIC). Now the United States Army can provide mission-critical transport to modernize base infrastructure, delivering broadband services from the base to the battlefield.

"The Tellabs 7100 system just passed some of the world's toughest tests to ensure that U.S. Army's critical communications can be delivered with the utmost reliability," said Rob Voorhees, vice president for Tellabs Government Systems.

The Tellabs 7100 OTS packs the power of reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) and Ethernet switching on a single platform. It provides huge amounts of bandwidth right where and when situations demand, giving the Army flexibility to modernize bases today and scalability for the future. The Tellabs 7100 OTS can be a vital part of the terrestrial infrastructure supporting the Army's network-centric operations.

"The Tellabs 7100 system delivers reliable, flexible bandwidth exactly where and when it's needed," said Mark Pashan, vice president and general manager of transport products for Tellabs. "It can provide the U.S. Army all the bandwidth needed to deliver video, data and voice reliably, every time."

The ISEC TIC performs design, engineering, integration, development, sustainment, installation, testing, and acceptance of information systems for the U.S. Army.
