Opnext, manufacturer of high-power infrared and red laser diodes, has expanded its laser diode portfolio with the launch of ultra power, 445 nm and 60 mW blue laser diode, HL45023TG, at Photonics West held at the Moscone Center from 25 to 27 January 2011.
The laser diode has been developed for mobile pico projector or accessory applications and integrated device solutions where pico projector image functionality is envisaged to be incorporated into a cell phone.
The HL45023TG’s innovative and patented design offers an optical output power of 60 mW at a wavelength of 445 nm. Its power consumption is 30% lower than commercially existing blue lasers. The blue laser diode is designed in a compact housing of 3.8 mm, making it suitable for mobile and embedded device applications.
The HL45023TG’s compact aspect ratio of 2.1 is close to that of the high-power red laser diode that Opnext’s is currently offering for pico projector solutions.
With the introduction of the blue laser, producers of pico projector modules can now use both blue and red laser diodes to enhance their red, green, blue (RGB) module. Opnext plans to start the volume production of the blue laser diodes in April 2011.
