ROHM Semiconductor Releases Infrared LEDS for Proximity Sensor Applications

ROHM Semiconductor, a company specializing in system LSI solutions, has introduced a new range of infrared LEDS that are specifically designed for proximity sensor applications.

The SIM-040/041ST and SIM-030/031ST surface-mount IR LEDs incorporate IR wavelength technology to deliver 850/870 nm peak output in comparison to other devices that produce 950 nm.

The IR LEDs deliver a maximum energy savings of 66% and increased efficiency of proximity sensing. Furthermore, the low profile and compact package footprint of the LEDs improve the use in portable devices such as cell phones. The ROHM SIM-040/041ST and SIM-030/031ST expand the company’s product line of ROHM optical sensors series of remote control modules, IrDA modules, tilt sensors, photointerrupters, receivers and emitters.

The SIM-030/031ST features a footprint of 2.3 mm x 1.95 mm dimensions with 0.9 mm height, making it the smaller device of the two LEDs. It provides standard emission strength of 30 mW/sr at 100 mA forward current. The SIM-040/041ST has dimensions of 3.1 mm x 2.25 mm x 1.6 mm and offers standard emission strength of 40 mW/sr.
