Maxim Releases SFP+ Controller with Digital Laser Diode Driver Interface

Manufacturer of semiconductor solutions, Maxim Integrated Products has rolled out a new small form factor pluggable (SFP+) controller that features a digital laser diode driver (LDD) interface. The DS1878 controller examines six analog channels, namely MON1 to MON4, Vcc, and temperature.

The SFP+ controller improves the reliability of a SFP+ optical transceiver module and allows effective execution of the SFF-8472 specification. It monitors and controls the entire operations for SFP+, SFP, and SFF optical modules. In addition, the controller can be integrated with MAX3799 or MAX3798 SFP+ laser driver/limiting amplifier for eye safety feature, modulation current control, and automatic power control (APC) loop.

The DS1878 SFP+ controller offers a laser modulation that can be managed using a temperature-driven lookup table (LUT). It operates with the MAX3946 LDD or the MAX3945 limiting amplifier to support 10 GHz applications that have electro-absorption-modulated (EML) and distributed feedback (DFB) lasers.
