Oclaro Delivers 100 Millionth VCSEL Semiconductor Laser Diodes

Provider of laser and optical communications products, Oclaro has announced the shipment of 100 millionth Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) chip from Switzerland-based facility.

The VCSEL semiconductor laser diodes fulfill the norms for reliability and process control and comprise a surface emitting geometry that enables testing at a wide range of stages across the manufacturing process.

Oclaro achieved the 100 millionth milestone by producing high process control and reliability at cost levels and volumes specified by major electronics and optics manufacturers. In addition, the company is extending its manufacturing expertise in large-scale applications for diode lasers including optical illumination and optical interconnects.

Oclaro’s Division Manager and Executive Vice President, Yves Le Maitre remarked that the company is leveraging its capabilities into the upcoming high volume markets. Maitre added that the company’s diode lasers are being used in various devices around the world.
