Perdue, food and agricultural products company; Washington Gas Energy Services (WGES), natural gas and electricity provider; and Standard Solar, solar electric company, have collaborated to develop solar panel power projects across two states.
Perdue’s two facilities will feature over 11,000 solar panels this summer to create one of the largest commercial solar power systems within the eastern US.
Washington Gas Energy Services and Perdue have signed a 15-year agreement to buy the power produced by the solar panels. Maryland-based company, Standard Solar will complete the installation of ground-mounted solar panels on the Perdue facility by September 2011. About 50% of the panels, which can be seen on westbound U.S. Route 50, will be at Perdue’s business offices in Salisbury. The remaining solar panels will be at the firm’s feed mill in Delaware.
WGES will own and operate the solar systems that will create an average of 3,700 MWh of power annually. The solar panels, at peak production, will generate up to 90% of electrical demand for individual facility.
