Corning Cable Systems to Supply Optical Fiber Cable for Australian NBN Project

Specialty ceramics and glass company, Corning Cable Systems will supply the hardware and optical fiber cable for the Australian government’s National Broadband Network (NBN) project. The initiative focuses on bringing ultra-fast broadband services across the nation.

NBN plans to offer 93% of businesses and homes in Australia with an open-access network that delivers 100 Mbps download speeds in the next decade. NBN and Corning have entered into a supply contract for optical cable and hardware.

Corning manufactures optical connectivity systems for communications networks. The company has designed a platform that can endure a wide range of environments across Australia. Using the ALTOS ribbon cable with ITU-T G.652.D compliant SMF-28e+ LL fiber for underground installations and the FlexNAP terminal distribution solution with RPX ribbon cable for aerial installations will enable an efficient deployment of network.

Corning Cable Systems’ Managing Director, Rainer Dittrich stated that the company is pleased to be chosen as a key partner for NBN. Dittrich added that the company is eager to support Australia in the broadband deployment.
