CENTROSOLAR Inks Deal with TSMC to Produce Crystalline Solar Modules

TSMC has chosen CENTROSOLAR Group as an exclusive producer of crystalline solar modules for the European market. As per the deal, CENTROSOLAR will deliver 100 MWp capacity solar modules annually by utilizing TSMC’s solar cells. The two firms are also analyzing the possibilities of a partnership in the process engineering and product development areas. Financial terms of the deal will not be disclosed to the public.

CENTROSOLAR will produce the required solar modules in a new manufacturing facility next to its production plant in Wismar, Germany. According to the deal, the first set of deliveries will be done during the Q3 of 2011.

CENTROSOLAR can increase its solar module production capacity from 200 MWp to 500 MWp through its new production facility and warehouse in Wismar. The new facilities will provide space for the firm to do both its contract and own business productions.

The first phase of construction, which is slated for completion by Q3 of 2011, will increase the solar module production capacity by 150 MWp and will create more job opportunities in Wismar. The enrollment can increase up to 1,000 once the new facilities operate to full capacity.

The Senior Director in Charge at TSMC’s solar PV business, Ying-Chen Chao stated that the new agreement with CENTROSOLAR would support the company’s efforts in thin-film solar product development.
