Molex Acquires Luxtera’s Active Optical Cable Business

Molex, provider of complete interconnect solutions, announced that it has acquired Luxtera’s Active Optical Cable (AOC) business sector. Luxtera will reassign all aspects of its AOC business that includes InfiniBand and Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable (QSFP+) 40Gbps Ethernet products to Molex.

The acquisition enables Molex to add the QSFP active optical cables to its portfolio of optical connectivity products. The acquisition also includes a contract for Luxtera to manufacture and supply chip-sets for Molex products. Both the companies will collaborate to offer customers with sophisticated edge interconnect solutions at 25 Gbps, 14 Gbps, and 10 Gbps.

Molex’ VP of Global Fiber Optic Products Group, Doug Busch stated that the acquisition till help the company to bolster its share in the fiber-optic assembly market. He added that the collaboration with Luxtera would enable them to provide high-level of photonics integration.

Luxtera’s Chief Executive Officer, Greg Young commented that the company would continue to focus on the Silicon Photonics technology platform and expand the reach of the technology to other worldwide customers.
