Supplier of ID solutions, LaserCard has obtained an order to provide additional identifications for Italy's Citizen ID Card program.
The company stated that the multi-technology, highly secure ID cards are based on the optical security media platform. Italian citizens use the ID cards for travel and identification purposes. LaserCard’s order is valued at nearly $540,000. The company is anticipated to deliver the products by March 31, 2011.
The Citizen ID Card program, known as Carta d'Identita Elettronica, is crucial for law and security enforcement authorities to validate the identity of citizens. The ID cards also prevent counterfeiting and fake usage of important documents. The program comprises special-language ID cards, which are issued for citizens living in the border regions.
LaserCard stated that the ID cards are also utilized by the National Police and the Ministry of Justice to offer access to government services and to protect employees. The company offers ID credentials for various government ID programs such as the Hungarian Professional Driver License, the Costa Rica Foreign Resident Card, Angola and Saudi Arabia National ID Cards, and the U.S. Green Card.
