Zhone, Hardy Telecommunications to Deploy Fibre-Optic Broadband Services in West Virginia

Provider of FTTx network solutions, Zhone technologies announced that it has extended its agreement with Hardy Telecommunications to initiate a new fibre-optic broadband project.

Zhone also announced that it will also collaborate with Goldfield Telecom to deploy the project. The fibre-optic broadband project will offer both copper and fibre connectivity to the underdeveloped rural regions of Hardy County in West Virginia.

Hardy Telecommunications, from 2011, will utilize Zhone network interface device optical network terminals (ONT) and MXK intelligent Gigabit Passive Optical Network system to offer reliable and affordable high-speed video, VoIP and Internet access services. The broadband project is part of the Hardy OneNet Fibre to the Home project to business and residential customers based in Hardy County.

Zhone secured a total of $34.8 million in broadband stimulus grants in the first two rounds of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act disbursements for deploying the project.
