LCD Manufacturing Firms Adopt Different Strategies to Capture Emerging Markets

DisplaySearch has released a new report titled ‘Quarterly Large-Area TFT LCD Product Roadmap Report’.

LCD Panel

According to the report, LCD manufacturers have begun manufacturing panels with minimal specifications so as to target developing markets including China, India and Brazil.

Inferior LCD panels feature minimal specifications in major areas such as color reproduction and display brightness. Such panels offer 60% to 65% of color gamut of the NTSC standard compared to 70% to 75% generated by mainstream panels. They also deliver around 350-400 nits of output compared to 400-450 nits produced by mainstream panels.

Variations in panel features would have an effect on the market. High-end panels are suitable for challenging markets in developed countries, but would create less revenue in emerging markets. Therefore, manufacturers can generate more sales revenues on if they offer inferior LCD panels
