LIA Launches Online Optical Density Calculator for Laser Users

Laser Institute of America (LIA) has launched a new online Optical Density (OD) Calculator that is useful for laser users. The online OD device will determine what OD is needed for using with a laser device of a given power.

LIA’s OD calculator provides users with the minimal OD needed for laser safety eyewear in repetitive, single and continuous wave pulse modes.

The OD calculator is part of LIA’s Evaluator system, a web-based laser safety analysis solution. The Evaluator system offers a reliable way to verify laser safety calculations. The system is based on ANSI Z136.1 American National Standard for Safe Use of Lasers and carries out calculations on laser hazard classification, nominal hazard zone (NHZ), nominal ocular hazard distance (NOHD), OD and maximum permissible exposure (MPE).

The Evaluator System has Basic, Intermediate and Advanced subscription levels that allow users to select for specific requirements. This enables organizations to choose their required subscription level. In addition, users can downgrade or upgrade to any subscription level, making it a scalable and versatile solution for organizations.
