Orange Spain Plans Fiber-Optic Network Expansion in 2011

Orange Spain intends to accelerate the expansion and deployment of the optical network by next year.

The network operator is planning to increase the 100 Mbps FTTH service subscribers by two times in the next one year. The expansion would cover more than 8,000 households by the end of 2011.

Orange provides 100 Mbps FTTH connections to the Catalan community of Viladecans and to three regions in Madrid. The company intends to perform the network extension independently and in collaboration with other telecoms network companies, and infrastructure operators. France Telecom’s Spanish subsidiary intends to collaborate with other alternative operators including Vodafone and Jazztel to deploy a collaborative internet access expansion plan, like the plan unveiled by alternative operators in Portugal or Italy.
