CSTPQ Receives Funds to Acquire Equipment for Hybrid Laser Welding Technology

Canada Economic Development has announced that the Centre spécialisé de technologie physique du Québec (CSTPQ) has received $486,068 non-repayable funding to acquire equipment to meet the emerging need for hybrid laser-GMAW and laser welding.

The CSTPQ, a technology transfer centre, provides various product development and design services to enterprises.

Under the terms of the contract, the CSTPQ will purchase efficient equipment to support the demand for hybrid laser welding among metallurgical companies. The CSTPQ will be able to weld thick metal pieces by maximizing the current laser source’s power from 10 to 15 kW. The purchase of a 2 kW laser source will enable the center to wok on medium and fine-grade sheet metal.

The GMAW/ laser and hybrid welding technology minimize production costs and maximize business productivity. Numerous metal processing enterprises in Bas-Saint-Laurent, Quebec could include the laser welding technology into their manufacturing processes through the support from the CSTPQ.

The CSTPQ provides advanced only technology and is the only technology transfer centre in Canada.
