Dial One Communications to Extend Fiber-Optic Network in Chelan County

Stanwood-based fiber-optic splicing company has won the bid for a project to expand the fiber-optic network of the Chelan County PUD. This award makes the company one of the first three winning bidders for the fiber project.

Dial One Communications has received a $1.9 million contract to splice fiber-optic cables as part of the utility district’s 3-year project for the expansion of optical network to 98% of the businesses and homes in the Chelan County. The project is invested through a $25 million federal stimulus grant.

Private companies will utilize the fiber-optic network of the PUD to market telephone, cable TV, and broadband Internet service. The construction of the fiber network will commence by March 20 in Cashmere and is scheduled to end in 2013.

The Vice President at the splicing company’s East Wenatchee office, Michael Rientjes stated that the local office has performed splicing work for Public Utility Districts throughput the state. He added that the company started its operations in 2008 and is now functioning for the Chelan County PUD.
