Defence & Security company, Thales will acquire a France-based optical component manufacturer, SESO (Société Européenne de Systèmes Optiques). SESO designs optical systems and components based on electro-optical, opto-mechanical and optical technologies.
SESO focuses on three key markets, namely high-power lasers, scientific programmes, space and defence. The company, located in Aix-en-Provence in France, provides ground equipment such as solar simulators and onboard equipment including telescopes and mirrors for spacecraft. SESO’s mirrors were chosen for the Pléaides and IASI observation satellites. In addition, the mirrors will be used in the France’s upcoming CSO intelligence satellites.
Furthermore, SESO has manufactured optical components required for the prototype of the Laser Mega Joule (LMJ) project in France. The company also develops optical instruments for astronomy applications.
The Director of Optronics Businesses at Thales, Serge Adrian stated that the acquisition offers numerous business opportunities and would facilitate the company to provide new instruments and systems for its consumers.
