Mada to Initiate Fiber-Optic Network Project in the Middle East

Mada Communication announced that it has inked a contract with Syria Telecommunications Establishment, Zain and Jordan Telecom, Mobily, Etisalat, and Superonline to commence a Regional Cable Network ("RCN") Project.

Fiber-Optic Network Route

The 7,750 km RCN project will span across five countries and intersect five cities. The project is set to revolutionize internet access services all over the Middle East region.

Nearly half a billion dollars will be invested in the fiber-optic project. The network will be operational from the second quarter of 2011 and offer a cost-efficient alternative to the Middle East region by supplying with high-speed Internet services. The network will allow countries in the area to communicate with the other parts of the world at enhanced speeds without restrictions in infrastructure.

The fiber-optic cable will originate in the Fujairah region of UAE and pass through Tartous, Amman, Riyadh, and end in Istanbul. The network will bridge the Middle East region with Europe by using its 2.4 Terabit capacity. The cable will link 15 access points that are currently present on the Bulgarian border.
