The hot-swappable input/output transceiver can be plugged into a Cisco router or switch’s Ethernet XENPAK port to connect it with the fiber network. The device provides various 10 GB Ethernet connectivity choices for applications in service provider transport, enterprise wiring closet and data center.

The transceiver enables real-time access to the operating parameters of the transceiver including transceiver supply voltage, received optical power, transmitted optical power, laser bias current and transceiver temperature. As per the IEEE802.3ae standard, the cabling distance for the optical XENPAK modules is as low as 2m.
