Lighting company, Hubbell Lighting and its Columbia Lighting brand have started an installation of lighting fixtures at the Everett McKinley Dirksen United States Courthouse in Illinois.
Columbia Lighting had collaborated with Domingo Gonzalez and Associates (DGA), a New York-based lighting designer, and created a recessed fluorescent fixture and a surface mounted fluorescent fixture with respect to DGA’s specifications.
The new lighting fixtures illuminate conference rooms, stairwells, hallways, courtrooms and offices. DGA developed the fixtures to bring the same general appearance and features of the original fixtures. In addition, the fixtures feature dimming ballast technology, T8 lamps, as well as modified optics to enhance energy efficiency.
The new Columbia replacement fixtures use a 32-watt T8 lamp that is powered with a Lutron Ecosystem electronic dimming ballast. The operating life of the T8 lamp is expected to be 40,000 h. The lighting fixture installation was started in 2009 and will be concluded in 2012. After the completion of the project, the Dirksen Federal Court Building will feature 9,000 new fixtures with 1,318 recessed fluorescent lighting fixtures and 7,782 surface mounted lighting fixtures.
