OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Receives Beckurts Prize for Direct Green Laser Diode

The Karl Beckurts Foundation has honored researchers at Osram Opto Semiconductors with the Beckurts Prize for developing a direct green semiconductor laser. The green-emitting semiconductor laser will create new markets including small mobile RGB laser projectors, and is suitable for numerous applications.

Direct green laser diode

Osram had begun the development of direct blue laser diodes for use in RGB laser projection. Inspired by the discoveries of the blue laser in the InGaN system, the scientists developed the green laser from a 500 nm wavelength. Osram developed green laser diodes featuring a wavelength greater than 515 nm and optical outputs of above 50 mW.

Project Molas supports the development of green and blue semiconductor laser diodes as well as the research into compact development of systems for mobile laser projection. The project Molas focuses on technologies for mobile and compact laser projection systems.
